How to Focus better in my room?
Always gettind distracted in your room? Try out these strategies so that you can focus better!
Your room is probably your main workplace where you do intense and meaningful work. Thus, it is essential for you to be able to focus in it. Here are some strategies for better focus in your room:
Closing your Room Door
If you live with a family or someone else, closing your room door would be a way of telling them that you are busy on something and should not be disturbed. This works for me because normally when I leave my room door wide open, they just come right in and check up on me or ask me questions. On the other hand, if my door is closed, they have to use more effort to open the door which will discourage them from opening it.
Closing your room door also signals that you mean business to yourself. Normally, with an open door, I too just go right out to check up on my family to see what's happening. And, from past experience, I find that I'm way less likely to go out of my room if the door is closed.
Decluttering my whole Room
Visual clutter is a real stress and procrastination inducer. Seeing all your stuff everywhere can sometimes make you feel hopeless and make you give up.
That's why, you should just get rid of everything. Okay, maybe not ‘everything’. I just get rid of useless stuff that I won't be using anytime soon. Although, since a lot of those things hold deep meaning to me when I was young, I couldn't bear throwing them away. So, I just dump them in my sister's room, which is sort of like a family storage room. Anyway, you should try to keep your room as minimal as possible.
From my own perspective, I feel much better now that there are way fewer things in my room. I don't get distracted as easily and I feel at peace. I'm planning to get rid of more stuff too! This is all part of my new minimalist lifestyle.
Using a chair seat-belt
In my opinion, a chair restraint, or seat belt as I like to call it, works better for yourself than closing the room door. If you have to work in one place or on a computer, this would be the perfect thing to prevent you from just standing up and going somewhere else. It becomes way harder to do that with a restraint on your chair. Plus, it prevents you from slouching as well!
I used my pants belt as the restraint and it works fine. Also, I know that just sitting would be bad for my health since humans natural position is walking. So, to make sure I optimize taking walks as well, I set a 25 | 5 Pomodoro timer. The 25 minutes is when I'm restrained to my seat whereas the 5 minutes is when I take a walk.
The one downside to this strategy is that you can’t control what outside distractions but for that you could use the closing door strategy.
